Each morning when I get out of bed, make my way to the kitchen to make coffee, I am greeted by the cheerful calls of the Superb Fairy Wrens as they busily go about thier business outside the kitchen window. A favourite sitting spot is the top of the gate. These tiny birds have so much personality, and the blue feathers on the male bird are just glorious when the sun catches them.

The femal Supert Fairy Wren is a soft brown colour. She has no blue feathers at all, and usually observes the male’s search for food from the side of the yard.
The male Superb Fairy Wren is often found hopping around on the ground in search of insects.
When the sun catches on his blue head and neck feathers, the colour is divine.
With his new plumage, the male Superb Fairy Wren is back to his splendid best in blue and black .
The male fairy wren loves to sit and sing from the top of our gate.
When the Superb Fairy Wren’s moult, the male loses most of the blue feathers, with only a few whispy blue feathers remaining on his neck.
The Superb Fairy Wrens are so tiny they can jump through the gaps in a trellis fence with ease.
