I’ve photographed Jacky Dragons before, but each time they have been in our garden or in the house (courtesy of a cat, even with the cat netting), so it was lovely to see one in the bushland up the back, just minding its own business. I very nearly stood on this one because the Jacky Dragon defense mechanism is to remain where they are and freeze, hoping no-one will see them. Luckily for this little one, I did see it.
One of the Jacky Dragon’s back legs seems to be damaged. In each photo it is straight and dragging behind. So I guess standing still doesn’t always work.
That’s an intricate bit of camouflage!
Yes, it has beautiful markings. Very gentle creatures too, from my experience. Lisa
It’s a little beauty and with its colouring you were certainly lucky to spot it …. not as lucky as it was! I’ve never seen one around Adelaide.
Yes, I actually went into this cleared area, which was off the track, to see if there were any wildflowers. It was because I was looking down that I saw it – and my foot fell a couple of inches away from it. The Jacky Dragon didn’t move…. it makes me wonder how close you have to get before it runs! Lisa
