Jacky Dragon in Bushland

Just off the side of one track is a small area which looks bare, apart from some leaf litter and a Jacky Dragon!

I’ve photographed Jacky Dragons before, but each time they have been in our garden or in the house (courtesy of a cat, even with the cat netting), so it was lovely to see one in the bushland up the back, just minding its own business. I very nearly stood on this one because the Jacky Dragon defense mechanism is to remain where they are and freeze, hoping no-one will see them.   Luckily for this little one, I did see it.

One of the Jacky Dragon’s back legs seems to be damaged. In each photo it is straight and dragging behind. So I guess standing still doesn’t always work.

  1. It’s a little beauty and with its colouring you were certainly lucky to spot it …. not as lucky as it was! I’ve never seen one around Adelaide.

    1. Yes, I actually went into this cleared area, which was off the track, to see if there were any wildflowers. It was because I was looking down that I saw it – and my foot fell a couple of inches away from it. The Jacky Dragon didn’t move…. it makes me wonder how close you have to get before it runs! Lisa

Let me know what you think!
